Oilers aim to rebound in Anaheim

The Edmonton Oilers will try to avoid a potentially back- breaking third straight loss on Monday night when they wrap their road trip against the division-leading Anaheim Ducks.

The Oilers have lost two straight on the heels of winning five in a row and were outscored 8-1 on the brief slide. That leaves Edmonton tied for 10th in the Western Conference and four points back of the eighth-place Detroit Red Wings.

After beginning a four-game swing with an 8-2 win in Calgary, Edmonton has dropped contests in Vancouver and Los Angeles. The Oilers gave up two first- period goals in a 4-1 loss to the Kings on Saturday.

Magnus Paajarvi scored on the power play for Edmonton's lone goal, with Dubnyk stopping 35-of-38 shots in the setback.

"Penalties killed us, for sure," said Paajarvi. "We didn't match their intensity. We've got to do that to even give us a chance to win."

Edmonton now sits 8-10-3 on the road this season and visits an Anaheim club that is 15-5-0 as the host and leads the Pacific Division by nine points over the Kings. Their 57 points also have the Ducks second in the West and five back of the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks.

Anaheim padded its division lead with a 4-3 shootout win over visiting Los Angeles on Sunday. Bobby Ryan, Saku Koivu and Corey Perry all scored in the tiebreaker, while Viktor Fasth made the one save he needed while facing two L.A. shooters in total.

Perry, Matt Beleskey and Kyle Palmieri all scored in regulation, while Beleskey added an assist and Fasth came up with 35 saves as Anaheim moved to 4-1-1 in its last six.

"Viktor played well," Perry said. "He's been doing it all year. Tonight he made some big saves for us and we got the win."

With leading scorer Ryan Getzlaf out a second straight game due to a lower body injury, Perry stepped up and matched Getzlaf for the team lead with 13 goals on the season.

The Ducks and Oilers are actually meeting for the first time this season and will conclude their season set with consecutive games in Edmonton on April 21-22.

The Ducks have won six of seven and 12 of the previous 15 encounters overall, though Edmonton snapped a two-game slide in Anaheim in the last meeting there.
