Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw has been named the National League Player of the Week for the period ending April 7.

Kershaw has been brilliant through his first two starts. In 16 innings of work, he has not allowed a run and has recorded 16 strikeouts while compiling a 2-0 record.

In his Opening Day start, he recorded the sixth shutout of his career against the defending World Champion San Francisco Giants. He also provided a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning of that contest.

Others considered for the award were Atlanta's Justin Upton, John Buck of the New York Mets, Colorado's Dexter Fowler, Cincinnati's Todd Frazier, Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt and Gerardo Parra, Philadelphia's Cliff Lee, and Washington's Bryce Harper.
