The Houston Astros have placed pitcher Josh Fields on the 15-day disabled list because of a right forearm strain.

The move is retroactive to April 4.

Fields has made two scoreless appearances this season out of the Houston bullpen. The right-hander was the No. 1 pick in December Rule 5 draft, selected off the roster of the Boston Red Sox.

The Astros have recalled pitcher Paul Clemens from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill the roster spot. Clemens, a 25-year-old right-hander who has never pitched in the majors, appeared in four spring training games for the Astros last month.
