Boise, ID – The 2013 Davis Cup quarterfinal showdown between the host United States and Serbia will swing into action Friday with a singles bout between world No. 1 superstar Novak Djokovic and 6-foot-9 American John Isner.
Djokovic-Isner will be followed by a rubber between 6-foot-6 American Sam Querrey and 2010 Serbian Davis Cup hero Viktor Troicki, who won a fifth and deciding rubber three years ago against France in the World Group final.
The high-flying Djokovic is 2-1 lifetime against the towering Isner, but the American won their last meeting at an ATP event in Indian Wells last year. The Serbian great, however, beat Isner in a Davis Cup matchup back in 2010.
Saturday's doubles affair in Boise will pit the outstanding American twin Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, against a Serbian duo of Ilija Bozoljac and Nenad Zimonjic, while Sunday's reverse singles call for the Australian Open champion Djokovic to battle the 20th-ranked Querrey and the world No. 23 Isner to take on the 44th-ranked Troicki.
Djokovic is a solid 20-7 in his career Davis Cup singles action, while Troicki is a respectable 12-8. Querrey has a losing 3-5 record in his limited career Davis Cup singles outings, while Isner is only 6-6 in his singles rubbers.
The best-of-five tie will be staged on an indoor hardcourt at Boise's Taco Bell Arena. Team USA is captained by Jim Courier, while Bogdan Obradovic guides the visiting Serbs.
Serbia topped the 32-time titlist U.S. 3-2 in Belgrade in an opening- round tie three years ago in their lone previous Davis Cup meeting.
The Serbs are playing this week without injured world No. 9 star Janko Tipsarevic.
The USA-Serbia winner will meet the Canada-Italy victor in the semifinals in September.
