Pitcher Derek Lowe, who signed a minor-league contract with Texas on March 6, has officially made the Rangers' Opening Day roster.

Lowe is expected to be used primarily in a long relief and spot starter role.

It is a role that the 39-year-old is familiar with, serving as a long-reliever for the New York Yankees over the latter part of the 2012 campaign. He was released during the season by the Cleveland Indians.

Additionally, uber-prospect Jurickson Profar will begin the season at Triple-A Round Rock. Over 23 spring training games this year, Profar batted just .216 with five RBI, eight runs and two stolen bases.

Four Rangers will begin the season on the disabled list. Right-handed starter Colby Lewis (right flexor pronator surgery), right-handed reliever Joakim Soria (recovering from Tommy John surgery) and left-handed reliever Martin Perez (broken left wrist) were all placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to March 22.

Right-handed starter Neftali Feliz, who underwent Tommy John surgery in the offseason, was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Also on Sunday, the Rangers optioned pitchers Cory Burns and Josh Lindblom to Round Rock and selected the contract of infielder Jeff Baker from the Express.
