United States midfielder Stuart Holden is temporarily switching between English second-tier clubs Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday to regain match fitness.
The 27-year-old Holden is joining Sheffield Wednesday on loan until April 24 and could make his debut against Barnsley on Saturday.
Holden has not played since making his first league appearance a month ago following nearly two years of knee problems.
"This is an opportunity for Stuart to go out and get games," Bolton manager Dougie Freedman said. "This is the next step in his rehabilitation process and he'll come back to us match-fit."
Although Holden's Bolton contract expires at the end of the season, he has been assured of his future at the club.
"I informed him that we want him with us next season and have offered him a contract extension," Freedman said.
