The Panthers have announced they've re-signed unrestricted free agent defensive tackle Dwan Edwards.

Edwards started 14 games and posted a career-high six sacks last season with Carolina, third-most among NFL defensive tackles. He also had 52 tackles.

The 31-year-old Edwards is expected to be a starter this season.

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Edwards joined the Panthers after being released by the Buffalo Bills at the end of training camp. A veteran of nine NFL seasons, Edwards played for the Bills (2009-11) and Baltimore Ravens (2004-09) prior to joining the Panthers.

A second-round draft choice of the Ravens in 2004 out of Oregon State, Edwards has played in 97 career games with 61 starts, recording 327 tackles, 11.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, two interceptions and nine passes defensed.
