Lakers' World Peace out at least six weeks

The stumbling Los Angeles Lakers will have to continue their playoff push without Metta World Peace.

The 33-year-old forward is scheduled for left knee surgery on Thursday and will be sidelined for at least the rest of the regular season.

Diagnosed with a torn lateral meniscus, World Peace suffered the injury in Monday's loss to the Golden State Warriors and is expected to miss at least six weeks, meaning there's a good chance he won't play again this season.

The Lakers are losers of three in a row and currently hold just a one game lead over the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The 14-year-veteran, a member of the Lakers since the 2009-10 campaign, was having his most productive season in Los Angeles, posting averages of 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game over 70 contests.
