The New York Yankees have claimed pitcher Dan Otero off waivers from the San Francisco Giants.

Otero made 12 relief appearances for the Giants last year and posted a 5.84 ERA with no record. He had a 9.00 ERA in eight outings this spring.

The 28-year-old right-hander owns a 15-3 career minor league record with a 2.13 ERA and 234 strikeouts in 236 appearances in six seasons.

New York placed pitcher Cesar Cabral on the 60-day disabled list to open a spot on the 40-man roster.
