Shacobia Barbee finished with 20 points to lift the fourth-seeded Georgia Lady Bulldogs to a 65-60 decision over the fifth- seeded Iowa State Cyclones in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
Anne Marie Armstrong chipped in 13 points and five rebounds for Georgia (27-6), which will advance to play the winner of the Stanford and Michigan matchup in the Sweet 16.
Anna Prins paced ISU (24-9) with 23 points while Chelsea Poppens posted a double-double of 14 points and 17 boards. Hallie Christofferson had 12 points in the setback.
In a back-and-forth first half, neither team managed to gain a lead of more than four points. The game went into the intermission tied up at 32 after Georgia shot 44 percent from beyond the arc and the Cyclones hit 5-of-16 from 3-point range.
The Lady Bulldogs began the second stanza on a 12-4 run to take an eight-point lead. ISU jumped back in front after it generated a 19-1 run of its own, but Georgia made two more field goal attempts and one more free-throw try in the second half to escape with the five-point win.
The Cyclones lost despite holding a 44-35 edge in the rebounding battle.
