McInnes to take charge of Aberdeen

Aberdeen announced on Monday that Derek McInnes will take over as manager of the club next month in place of Craig Brown, who announced that he was stepping down in April.

McInnes has managed at St Johnstone as well as Bristol City and he will be joined at Aberdeen by assistant Tony Docherty, with both men signing 2 1/2- year contracts with the Dons.

"From the moment Craig Brown announced his intention to step down, Derek and Tony were at the forefront of our thoughts alongside other potential candidates," said Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne.

"We were all hugely impressed with Derek's assessment of the club, its potential, and what they believed was required to move it on from the strong platform that Craig and Archie Knox have established."

Brown will remain with Aberdeen in a director's role, while McInnes inherits a team that currently resides in the bottom half of the Scottish Premier League.
