The Miami Heat's winning streak is up to 25 straight and they will try to inch closer to the NBA record on Sunday night when they host the Charlotte Bobcats.
The Heat reached 25 consecutive wins with a 103-89 victory Friday at home over the Detroit Pistons. That puts the Heat within eight wins of matching the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers' all-time record for consecutive victories.
"It's not a goal. It's never been a goal of mine," LeBron James said of the NBA record. "I know it's 33, but we don't get caught up in saying eight games to get. We play our next game and see what happens."
On Friday, the Pistons built a six-point lead after the first quarter and were still ahead at halftime. The Heat held Detroit to 14 points in the third quarter and outscored the Pistons by nine in the fourth to win going away.
James led the way with 29 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Dwyane Wade chipped in 19 points and Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier and Norris Cole all scored double figures.
With the Heat playing so well, it might be easy to overlook the Bobcats, who own the NBA's worst record.
Not happening, according to James.
"We don't get caught up in things like saying we're untouchable. We know we can be beat by anybody, any night," he said. "We don't play like that, we don't talk like that. We just go out and play our game."
The Bobcats saw their first winning streak since mid-November come to an end on Saturday night. They fell at home to the Detroit Pistons, who broke a 10- game losing streak.
The Bobcats were ahead with 31.6 seconds left and Charlie Villanueva of the Pistons missed a 3-pointer with under 20 seconds to go. Greg Monroe tipped it back to Villanueva, who drove the lane and scored to put Detroit ahead by one.
Kemba Walker got off a good shot for Charlotte, but his jumper rimmed out. Josh McRoberts put-back couldn't fall and there went the Bobcats' two-game winning streak.
"We got two pulls for one. We kept it simple," Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap said of the last sequence. "That's one of our crunch plays that we run in practice. We have three of them in our pocket so we know it, but unfortunately we didn't get that one to go in."
Walker led the Bobcats with 25 points. Gerald Henderson, Jannero Pargo, Bismack Biyombo and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist all scored in double figures. Biyombo also grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Heat have won 10 straight against the Bobcats, including both this season. The Bobcats have beaten the Heat in Miami twice since coming into the league in 2005 and haven't done it in their last five attempts.
