Warriors try to build on recent win, play host to Wizards

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors will try to salvage a decent homestand, starting Tuesday night when the Washington Wizards visit Oracle Arena.

Golden State has been home for three straight, but is only 1-2 on the residency. The Warriors dropped the first two against the Indiana Pacers and Minnesota Timberwolves, but rebounded with an impressive 103-88 victory Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Stephen Curry scored a game-high 38 points to go with seven rebounds and eight assists to lead the Warriors. David Lee turned in a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, Andre Iguodala finished with 12 points and 10 boards, and Klay Thompson finished with 17 points for the Warriors, who had dropped four of five entering the contest.

"I thought we did a great job paying attention to detail," Golden State head coach Mark Jackson said. "We started the game off the right way. Just a big time win against a very good basketball team."

Golden State held Portland, the best offensive squad in the league, to its lowest point total of the season.

The Warriors finish this current homestand on Thursday when the Los Angeles Clippers come to Oakland.

The Wizards are on game three of a four-game western trek. They are 1-1 with a win over the Phoenix Suns on Friday and a loss Saturday to the Utah Jazz.

Washington fell 104-101 in Salt Lake City to snap a brief two-game road winning streak.

Trevor Ariza scored 23 and Nene ended with 19 for the Wizards, who also received 14 points and 11 boards from Marcin Gortat. John Wall, who was limited to 13 points on 4-of-14 shooting, missed a desperation 3-pointer at the final horn.

"We stopped playing our style of basketball started playing their style, and they took advantage of that," Ariza said. "We came out lackadaisical again, second half. We stopped playing in our pace. We started to let them control the game. Everything changed from there."

It was only Washington's third loss in the last 11 on the road.

The Warriors bested the Wizards by 16 in Washington earlier this month and have owned this series in recent history. The Warriors have won six straight and 10 of the last 13 matchups, and seven of 10 as the host.
