RESULTS: Auto Club 400 Qualifying

[SATURDAY 9:09 am ET]

ON TAP FOR TODAY —There will be two rounds of NASCAR Sprint Cup practice from Auto Club Speedway today, both of which will be televised live on SPEED. The first round begins at 12:30 p.m. ET, with Happy Hour at 3:30 p.m. SPEED will also televise NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying at 1:30 p.m. ET.

MOVIN’ ON UP — With second-qualifier Greg Biffle and third-qualifier Brad Keselowski both having to change engines yesterday, they will begin Sunday’s Auto Club 400 at the back of the field. That means the top three starters will all be Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas, with Denny Hamlin on the pole, followed by teammates Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth. Former JGR driver Joey Logano will start the race fourth in his Penske Racing Ford, with Martin Truex next in the first of the Michael Waltrip Racing Toyotas.

TRD, U.S.A., Toyota’s racing arm is based in Costa Mesa, Calif., roughly 55 miles west and south of the speedway, making this a huge race for the manufacturer. Toyota has never won a Sprint Cup race at Auto Club Speedway, but there’s a strong chance that could change on Sunday.

Kyle Busch was pleased with the speed he and Hamlin had in their cars during qualifying on Friday. “We both had really fast race cars and that's just a testament to everybody at JGR and TRD and all the folks that work so hard to give us good stuff each and every weekend,” Busch said.
