The Montreal Canadiens have claimed forward Jeff Halpern off waivers from the New York Rangers.

Halpern, who played for the Canadiens during the 2010-11 season, had one assist in 30 games for the Rangers this year. He has won 56.7 percent of his faceoffs, tied for 11th in the NHL.

The 36-year-old Washington, DC native spent the majority of his career with the Capitals and has also played for Dallas, Tampa Bay and Los Angeles in addition his brief time with the Rangers and Canadiens.

In 72 games with the Canadiens in 2010-11, Halpern notched 11 goals and 15 assists. He has 146 career goals and 359 points in 891 games over 13 NHL seasons.
