Adrian Wilson gives the New England Patriots the physical presence they've lacked at safety. They give the former Arizona Cardinal a chance for a rare playoff appearance.

And the five-time Pro Bowl player says he hasn't lost a step despite diminished playing time last year. Wilson said Thursday that was the decision of his coaches and he feels great now.

The strong safety spent all 12 of his NFL seasons with the Cardinals before being released March 8. He signed with the Patriots eight days later. Wilson said having a legitimate chance at a division championship and a Super Bowl berth were attractive to him.

The Cardinals reached the playoffs in two of Wilson's 12 seasons, including a Super Bowl appearance. The Patriots made the postseason 10 times and won three Super Bowls in that span.
