The Colts have re-signed free-agent cornerback Cassius Vaughn.

The move means Indianapolis has kept two key backups — Darius Butler and Vaughn — in their effort to improve a secondary that was gouged in the second half of last season.

During last week's free-agent signing flurry, Colts owner Jim Irsay agreed to pay more than $100 million to seven free agents from other teams.

Vaughn, a restricted free agent, signed his qualifying offer Monday. The Colts got Vaughn in a trade from Denver last May. He made 11 starts in 2012 and finished with a career-high 70 tackles and two fumble recoveries. He returned one interception for a touchdown.

In 38 career games, Vaughn has made 92 tackles and has scored on two interception returns.
