Indianapolis, IN – Undefeated Connecticut and Notre Dame, as well as Tennessee and South Carolina, have earned No. 1 seeds for the 2014 women's NCAA basketball tournament.
UConn has been the No. 1 ranked team in the county since the preseason and has gone unscathed through all 34 of its games this season, including an easy run through the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
The defending-champion Huskies will play in the Lincoln Region, while former Big East rival Notre Dame, which lost to UConn in the national semifinals last year, will be in the opposite side of the bracket in the South Bend Region following a 32-0 campaign in its first year in the ACC.
Tennessee (27-5) will not have to travel far if it reaches the Final Four since Bridgestone Arena in Nashville is hosting the event. The Lady Vols are in the Louisville Region, which also features last year's national runner-up, Louisville, as a No. 3 seed.
The other No. 1 seed, South Carolina (27-4), was awarded its first No. 1 seed in the Stanford Region despite losing in the SEC Tournament semis.
The No. 2 seeds in the field are Duke, West Virginia, Stanford, and Baylor. Texas A&M, Penn State and Kentucky comprise the other No. 3 seeds, while Nebraska, Maryland, North Carolina and Purdue round out the top four seeds in each region.
The Final Four will be played in Nashville on April 6 with the national championship game two days later.
