Blackhawks crush Stars

Dallas, TX – The Chicago Blackhawks began a new winning streak Saturday with an 8-1 thrashing of the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center.

Chicago captain Jonathan Toews had two goals and an assist, Marian Hossa lit the lamp twice and Patrick Kane registered a goal and two helpers in the rout.

The Blackhawks had dropped two in a row following their NHL-record 24-game point streak to start the season. After allowing six goals in setbacks to Colorado and Edmonton, they clamped down defensively in Thursday's 2-1 shootout win over Columbus.

The Stars made it fairly easy for Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford, testing him with just 19 shots.

"Corey did a good job of staying in there but the defense played great and we did a great job of holding on to the puck," Kane said.

Trevor Daley provided the lone goal in Dallas' fourth consecutive loss.

"I don't see it as problems in the team. It's just our job as coaches to make sure our players, especially our young players, are prepared to play against a team like this," said Dallas head coach Glen Gulutzan.

Stars netminders Kari Lehtonen and Richard Bachman each surrendered four goals on 17 shots.

The Blackhawks' offensive barrage began with Toews scoring twice in a 1:35 span in the first period. Nick Leddy then beat Lehtonen with 2:06 remaining in the opening frame.

Chicago potted three more goals in the middle stanza. Johnny Oduya scored on a point shot, ending Lehtonen's night at the 8:01 mark.

A pair of tallies by Hossa put the Blackhawks up 6-0. After tapping in a feed from Kane at 12:18, Hossa found the back of the net on a 5-on-3 power play with 51 seconds remaining.

Duncan Keith got in on the scoring act for Chicago 2:06 into the third period.

After Daley put Dallas on the board with a power-play marker, Kane tickled the twine with a spin-o-rama backhander on a Chicago power play midway through the stanza.

Game Notes

Viktor Stalberg and Bryan Bickell finished with three assists apiece for Chicago ... Dallas forward Jamie Benn returned to the lineup after missing two games with a wrist injury.
