James Hulbin scored 17 points on 6-of-6 shooting to lead Northwestern State to a 66-51 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference game Thursday night.

Shamir Davis had 15 points for the Demons (20-8, 14-3), who had lost two in a row, including a 64-63 defeat to league leader Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.

Northwestern State's victory assured a bye in the Southland tournament.

Will Nelson had 14 points and six rebounds for the Islanders (6-22, 5-12), who had won two in a row coming in.

The Islanders led 14-13 on Jelani Currie's 3-pointer with 12:22 left in the first half, but the Demons went on a 16-3 run for a 29-17 advantage capped by Marvin Frazier's layup with 3:56 left. Northwestern State led 32-23 at halftime.

The Demons pushed the advantage to 42-27 on Hulbin's 3-pointer with 15:56 remaining and were never threatened.
