The Oakland Athletics will move their spring training home to Mesa beginning in 2015.

The Athletics have been in Phoenix since 1982 and previously called Mesa their spring home from 1969-78. The new agreement with Mesa is for 20 years with a pair of five-year club options that could keep the team in the East Valley city for 30 years.

"We are extremely excited about our future spring home and want to thank the City of Mesa for all their hard work and cooperation in making this agreement possible," said Athletics owner Lew Wolff.

Mesa is also the spring training headquarters for the Chicago Cubs, who will remain in the town but will be moving from HoHoKam Park to a new facility next year. The Athletics will move into a renovated HoHoKam Park in 2015.

"With the improvements planned over the next two years, we believe HoHoKam Stadium and surrounding facilities will rival any in Major League Baseball," Wolff continued. "Our players and coaches, as well as our great fans, will be the beneficiaries. Today we begin a new chapter of our spring training history in Arizona."
