Motherwell scored twice inside the opening eight minutes at Tynecastle Stadium on Saturday to earn a second straight Scottish Premier League win with a 2-1 defeat of Hearts.

Michael Higdon opened the scoring in just the third minute of play, grabbing his 19th goal of the season to see him go level with Leigh Griffiths for the Scottish Premier League lead.

Motherwell's advantage was doubled five minutes later as an own goal from Dylan McGowan put the visitors in pole position.

John Sutton pulled a goal back for Hearts in the 59th minute, but it failed to spark any semblance of a comeback.

The result sees Motherwell improve to 46 points on the season to retain second place in Scotland's top flight while Hearts remains second from bottom in the table on 30 points.

Also on Saturday, Ross County and Inverness played to a 0-0 draw to remain separated by just one point in the table.
