Benfica continued to keep the pressure on FC Porto with a comfortable 3-0 win over third-place Pacos Ferreira on Sunday.
Porto's 2-1 win against Rio Ave on Saturday moved the defending champions three points clear for 24 hours, but Benfica responded with a resounding win over a top-three side.
Enzo Perez got Benfica off the mark in the eighth minute and Oscar Cardozo doubled the advantage in the 47th with his 13th goal of the campaign.
Eduardo Salvio capped the scoring for Benfica six minutes from time, keeping the club level with Porto at the top of the league.
Porto came from a goal down to secure its 2-1 win after Bruno Braga put Rio Ave ahead in the 38th minute, only for Jackson Martinez to score the equalizer on the stroke of halftime.
Martinez then netted the winning goal 15 minutes from time, taking his tally to 22 goals on the season.
Braga closed to within a point of third-place Pacos Ferreira after holding off Guimaraes, 3-2, behind two goals from Eder.
Friday saw Estoril claim a 3-1 home win against Sporting Lisbon, while Setubal secured a 1-0 home win against Beira Mar.
Nacional scored two goals in the final 20 minutes to top Olhanense, 3-1, Moreirense and Gil Vicente played out a 0-0 draw in a battle of bottom-half sides, and Maritimo moved into sixth place after a 3-2 win at Academica on Monday.
