Alex Ovechkin scored two of Washington's four third-period goals to complete his 11th career hat trick, as the Capitals earned a split of a two-game series against New Jersey with a 5-1 win Saturday at the Verizon Center.

Eric Fehr and Troy Brouwer also scored in the third period for the Capitals, who bounced back from a 3-2 loss to the Devils on Thursday in Washington. A quirk in the shortened schedule forced the teams to play consecutively in the same city.

Mike Ribeiro set up two goals for Ovechkin, who added an assist for a four- point game. Braden Holtby stopped 21 shots for Washington, which blew a 2-1 lead in the third period on Thursday.

Johan Hedberg got the start in net for the Devils after Martin Brodeur won two nights ago and made 21 saves in defeat. Ilya Kovalchuk scored the lone goal for New Jersey, which is 1-2-1 in its last four.
