Malcolm Miller and Derrick Beltran scored 21 points apiece in Southern University's wire-to-wire 81-67 win over Alabama A&M on Monday in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
Javan Mitchell added 13 points and Jameel Grace 12 for Southern, which opened the game on a 14-2 run and led by at least seven the rest of the way.
Beltran and Miller combined to go 13-of-23 shooting, accounting for exactly half of the Jaguars' made baskets.
Southern (16-10, 10-2), winners of three straight, outshot Alabama A&M 48 percent (26 of 54) to 42 percent (24 of 57). The Jaguars struggled from the stripe, 22 of 32 compared to 12 of 17 for Bulldogs, but registered a 14 to 4 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Demarquelle Tabb led Alabama A&M (9-16, 5-9) with 22 points of 10-of-14 shooting but the other four Bulldog starters shot a combined 13 of 34.
