Celta Vigo decided on Monday to fire manager Paco Herrera and replace him with Abel Resino.

Herrera's departure does not come as a surprise after Celta's 3-1 defeat on Saturday to Getafe, which leaves the club with two points from its last five games and four points from safety.

Celta released a statement on Monday which confirmed the move, bringing an end to Herrera's time at the club, which began in 2010 and included a season in which Herrera helped Celta gain promotion to La Liga.

Resino, 53, will be charged with helping Celta remain in the top flight after spending time with Atletico Madrid, Levante and Valladolid, while his most recent job came with Granada.

The first match for Resino in charge of Celta comes on Sunday at his former side Granada.
