Inter Milan striker Diego Milito could be sidelined for the remainder of the season after he damaged knee ligaments in his team's 2-0 win over CFR Cluj in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Argentina international was forced to leave the match after only seven minutes, and according to a brief statement from Inter, the damage is significant.

"The tests revealed that the striker has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament and fibula collateral ligament," the statement read.

Milito had just returned from a month-long injury absence in last weekend's win over Chievo, but now the Nerazzurri must continue its push for a Champions League place without its leading scorer.

The 33-year-old Milito leads the club with nine goals in 20 Serie A contests this term, while Inter enters the weekend one point back of third-place Lazio.
