Deportivo wasted little time in naming a new manager as the club announced Fernando Vazquez as its new boss on Tuesday.

The La Liga club parted ways with Domingos Paciencia by mutual consent on Monday, just six weeks after the Portuguese tactician had arrived at the Riazor. Vazquez has moved in on a contract with Deportivo that runs until the end of the season but will renew for one more season should the club avoid relegation.

"I am happy for this chance with Deportivo," Vazquez said. "I know this is a difficult time, but I am sure that nothing is impossible and the idea now is to win eight games."

Vazquez, 58, previously managed at Las Palmas, Valladolid, Mallorca and Real Betis. He takes over a Deportivo side that is last in La Liga with 16 points from 23 games.
