No separating Porto and Benfica

Lisbon, Portugal – FC Porto and Benfica remained tied atop the Portuguese Liga over the weekend despite both sides being held to draws.

Benfica was first up on Sunday, and after taking a 2-1 lead into halftime, the Lisbon-based side allowed Mateus to score the equalizer early in the second half for Nacional, while both sides had players sent off in the 88th minute and Benfica's Nemanja Matic also saw red in stoppage time as the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw.

Porto kicked off later in the day and had the chance to move two points clear at the top of the league with a win.

But the match didn't start well as Tiago Targino scored after seven minutes for visiting Olhanense, while the only response from the defending champions was a Jackson Martinez goal in the 55th minute, leaving the final score at 1-1.

Monday's contest saw Pacos Ferreira move four points clear in third place as the club held on for a 3-2 victory at fourth-place Braga.

A first-half brace from Paolo Hurtado put Pacos up 2-0 at the break, while Cicero added a third goal early in the second half before the home side pulled two goals back, but couldn't find the equalizer.

Sporting Lisbon sustained another setback as Maritimo won 1-0 in Lisbon with a first-half goal from Hyun Jun Suk, Bebe's first goal for Rio Ave helped the club to a 2-1 win at Academica, a second-half brace from Nabil Ghilas propelled last-place Moreirense to a 3-0 win over Beira Mar and Setubal used a 24th-minute goal from Pedro Santos to down Gil Vicente, 1-0.
