Nine-man America topples Tijuana

America won for the fifth time in its first six games as the team secured a 2-1 win at Tijuana despite finishing the game with nine men.

The visitors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Osvaldo Martinez converted from the penalty spot, but they were reduced to 10 men with Rubens Sambueza receiving his marching orders 10 minutes later.

Things got worse for America before halftime when Aquivaldo Mosquera also was sent off before the break, leaving the club to play the entire second half with nine men.

But America was able to double its lead despite the numerical disadvantage in the 54th minute through Paul Aguilar, while Tijuana could only manage one goal 15 minutes from time courtesy of Pablo Aguilar.

Tigres sits one point clear at the top of the league after a 4-1 win at Toluca that saw the club score three times in the second half, while Pachuca slipped past Santos, 1-0, with a 10th-minute goal from Hector Herrera.

Cruz Azul and UNAM traded first-half goals in a 1-1 draw, while Queretaro claimed a point thanks to Amaury Escoto's 82nd-minute goal in a 1-1 deadlock with Jaguares.

Rafael Lugo tallied the lone goal in Guadalajara's 1-0 away win against Monterrey, Atlas topped Atlante, 2-1, United States international DaMarcus Beasley scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to help Puebla to a 3-1 win at San Luis and Morelia earned a 1-0 victory over Leon with Sergio Santana's second-half penalty kick accounting for the final margin.
