Top-seeded two-time champion Marin Cilic of the host nation and reigning titlist Mikhail Youzhny were a pair of easy quarterfinal winners Friday at the Zagreb Indoors tennis event.
The 2009 and 2010 Zagreb champ Cilic topped Slovenian Blaz Kavcic 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), while the third-seeded Russian Youzhny drilled 2011 titlist Ivan Dodig of Croatia 6-3, 6-2 inside Dom Sportova.
Youzhny beat Slovak Lukas Lacko in last year's finale here.
The Zagreb resident Cilic and Youzhny will meet for a ninth time on the ATP World Tour, with the Russian holding a 5-3 lifetime advantage. Cilic, however, has won their last two meetings.
Also in the round of eight, fourth-seeded veteran Austrian left-hander Jurgen Melzer topped big-serving Czech Lukas Rosol 6-4, 6-4 and Dutchman Robin Haase snuck past German qualifier Philipp Petzschner 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. Melzer, who recorded his 300th career match win on the tour Friday, and Haase will square off in Saturday's other semifinal.
