Rutgers coach Kyle Flood filled a major need in the secondary and added depth at running back, the defensive line and quarterback Wednesday.

The second-year coach signed 23 players for the Scarlet Knights' final season in the Big East Conference.

In keeping with the tradition started by former coach Greg Schiano, the majority of players came from New Jersey with the rest coming from New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Florida. Flood also made a small venture into Big 10 territory, signing a linebacker from Michigan.

Flood, who only had two days to recruit last season after replacing Schiano, seemed pleased with a class which didn't seem to have a can't-miss star. But he added speed without sacrificing size.

Rutgers went 9-4 last season, finishing tied for the regular-season conference title.
