Olympic ski champion Lindsey Vonn suffered torn knee ligaments and a leg fracture in a crash during a super-G run Tuesday at the world championships in Austria.

Vonn, the 2010 Olympic downhill champ and bronze medalist in the super-G, lost a ski after a jump and crashed into a gate as she slid off the course. She was treated by medical personnel on the slope before being transported to a hospital in a helicopter.

According to the U.S. Ski Team, Vonn suffered a torn ACL and MCL in her right knee as well as a lateral tibial plateau fracture.

Vonn will be sidelined for the rest of this season, but is expected to return for the start of the 2013-14 campaign and should be ready for next February's 2014 Olympics in Russia.
