Omaha, NE – Doug McDermott recorded 25 points and seven rebounds to lead No. 21 Creighton in a 75-58 victory over Bradley on Saturday.
McDermott was 9-for-15 from the field for the Bluejays (20-3, 9-2 MVC), who have won three straight and 14 of their past 16 games. Austin Chatman scored 16 points, while Gregory Echenique added 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting and also posted three blocks.
Dyricus Simms-Edwards had 18 points and Walt Lemon Jr. added 15 for Bradley (13-10, 5-6), which was coming off a win against Illinois State on Tuesday.
The game was close throughout the first half, as neither team had a lead of more than five points. Lemon's layup with 44 seconds remaining gave Bradley a 30-27 edge at halftime.
However, Creighton's offense in the second half was too efficient for Bradley to handle, as the Bluejays shot 18-for-26 from the field, including five three-pointers. Creighton took the lead early on, scoring eight unanswered points.
With 10:14 remaining and the Bluejays up 53-48, Chatman made a three point jumper, starting a 12-0 run in which McDermott scored nine consecutive points, sealing the victory.
Creighton beat Bradley for the 15th straight time at home ... The Bluejays have won 20 games for the 14th time in 15 seasons ... McDermott recorded his third straight double-double and 26th of his career.
