Stoke-on-Trent, England (Sports Network) - Stoke City confirmed the signing of American international Brek Shea from MLS side FC Dallas on Thursday, just hours before the close of the transfer deadline.

Shea had been training with Stoke for much of the month of January but was waiting for a work permit to come through before officially signing with the Premier League outfit.

The work permit was granted earlier in the day, allowing the 22-year-old winger to put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Potters for a transfer fee of approximately $4 million.

"It's fantastic news that we have been able to push through the deal," Stoke manager Tony Pulis told the club's official website. "Brek is a very, very exciting player, and one who we firmly believe could go on to become an outstanding player for this Football Club.

"He has terrific pace, a very good left foot and is capable of scoring goals. He has all the tools needed to be a success here."
