Austria and host Kazakhstan will face each other for the first-time ever in Davis Cup play this weekend in a best- of-five opening-round tie at Astana's National Tennis Centre.

Friday's opening singles rubber will pit the hosts' Andrey Golubev against Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer, while the second bout on Day 1 will have Austrian left-hander Jurgen Melzer taking on Evgeny Korolev.

Saturday's doubles match on the indoor red clay will pit a Kazakhstani tandem of Golubev and Yuri Schukin against an Austrian pairing of Julian Knowle and Alexander Peya, while Sunday's reverse singles call for Golubev to face Melzer and Korolev to battle Haider-Maurer.

Team Austria is captained by Clemens Trimmel, while the Kazakhstans are led by Dias Doskarayev.

The winner in Astana will move on to face either the Czech Republic or Switzerland in the quarterfinals.
