Cavani's late goal closes gap on Juve

Napoli closed to within three points of Serie A leaders Juventus on Sunday after Edinson Cavani scored in the 85th minute of a 2-1 Napoli victory at Parma.

Juve's 1-1 draw with Genoa on Saturday opened the door for Napoli, and Cavani rescued the win for his side five minutes from time after he beat the offside trap and calmly slotted his shot past goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.

The scoring was opened after 20 minutes by Napoli's Marek Hamsik, who was on the other end of a clever pass from Blerim Dzemaili and redirected the ball past the helpless Mirante in the Parma net.

Parma offered little in attack for much of the game but found a fortunate equalizer 15 minutes from time when Nicola Sansone's cross was inadvertently deflected into his own net by Napoli's Paolo Cannavaro.

A draw would have been a frustrating result for the visitors, but Cavani stepped up in the final minutes and netted his 27th goal in all competitions this season.

Bologna 3, Roma 3

Bologna, Italy - Roma and Bologna shared the spoils at the Stadio Dall'Ara on Sunday as the two sides played out an entertaining 3-3 draw.

In a back-and-forth affair, Roma seized the advantage in the ninth minute through Alessandro Florenzi, only for Alberto Gilardino to cancel out that effort eight minutes later.

Pablo Osvaldo had an immediate reply for Roma as the capital side went back in front in the 18th minute, but once again Bologna came back and pulled level midway through the opening half as Manolo Gabbiadini equalized.

Bologna took its first lead of the contest in the 54th minute courtesy of Cristian Pasquato, while Roma found its third goal 15 minutes from time as Panagiotis Tachtsidis nodded the ball home.

Alessandro Diamanti then had two shots come back off the woodwork in the final minutes as the hosts were unlucky not to claim all three points.

AC Milan 1, Atalanta 0

Bergamo, Italy - A first-half goal from Stephan El Shaarawy was enough for AC Milan to secure a 1-0 win at Atalanta on Sunday, moving the Rossoneri into the top five in Serie A.

El Shaarawy has been the driving force for Milan offensively this season, but after failing to score in his last four games, he was on target midway through the first half to send Milan to within six points of third-place Lazio.

M'Baye Niang created the goal in the 29th minute when he worked his way up the right wing and picked out El Shaarawy inside the area, allowing the 20- year-old to find the net from close range.

Atalanta started to get into the game a bit but had that momentum snuffed out in the 58th minute when Davide Brivio collected his second yellow card of the contest, allowing Milan to see out the remaining 30 minutes to claim the win.

Inter Milan 2, Torino 2

Milan, Italy - Riccardo Meggiorini scored a pair of goals for Torino to help the club extend its unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-2 draw against Inter Milan at the San Siro.

A well-taken free kick from Inter's Cristian Chivu put the home side ahead after five minutes, but Meggiorini came back and found the bottom corner of the net with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Torino took the lead shortly after the restart when Alessio Cerci's cross found Meggiorini in front of the net and he applied the finishing touch.

But the visitors had to settle for a point as Esteban Cambiasso netted the equalizer from close range in the 66th minute.

Cagliari 1, Palermo 1

Cagliari, Italy - Palermo was denied three valuable points on Sunday at Cagliari as substitute Thiago Ribeiro scored in the 90th minute of a 1-1 draw between the two bottom-half sides.

The half-hour mark saw the arrival of the game's first goal as Andrea Dossena got down the left wing and found Josip Ilicic, who unleashed a powerful shot that sailed beyond the reach of goalkeeper Michael Agazzi.

Palermo was in position to claim its first away win of the season, but Ribeiro had other ideas as he sent a glancing header from Danilo Avelar's cross into the net.

Cagliari moves three points above the drop zone with the result while Palermo remains in 19th, three points from safety.

Catania 2, Fiorentina 1

Catania, Italy - Catania came from a goal down in the second half to snatch a 2-1 home win against Fiorentina with Lucas Castro netting the winner two minutes from time.

A first-half header from Giulio Migliaccio put the Viola in front at the break, but his opener was answered by Nicola Legrottaglie, who equalized for the home side five minutes after the restart.

Alberto Aquilani was handed a red card for dissent in the 78th minute, and his side was punished 10 minutes later when Pablo Barrientos played a ball forward to Castro, who beat a defender and slotting home the winner.

Sampdoria 6, Pescara 0

Genoa, Italy - Mauro Icardi tallied four goals as Sampdoria rolled to a 6-0 win over Pescara at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on Sunday.

Citadin Eder got the scoring started from the penalty spot in the 31st minute before Icardi took over from there.

He netted his first goal shortly before halftime to hand the hosts a two-goal lead before Pedro Obiang scored on a left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Icardi scored two goals in quick succession to complete his hat trick and added another for good measure with 19 minutes to play, capping a miserable afternoon for the visitors.

The win moves Sampdoria six points clear of the drop zone, while Pescara sits in 17th place.

Udinese 1, Siena 0

Udine, Italy - Udinese remains very much in the hunt for European contention with the team earning a 1-0 win at the Stadio Friuli on Sunday against last- place Siena.

Clear-cut scoring chances were at a premium in the game and Luis Muriel made the most of his in the 36th minute to provide Udinese with the difference in the game.

Antonio Di Natale started the move when he gained possession in midfield and played the ball forward to Allan, who played it on for Muriel to slot past goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo.

Alessandro Rosina was the most dangerous player for Siena, but he squandered the few chances that fell him, summing up the season so far for Siena.
