Niall McGinn failed to convert a penalty kick for Aberdeen as the Dons were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Hibernian.
In what was an otherwise forgettable match, Aberdeen had the best chance to break the deadlock in the 11th minute when Hibernian's Tim Clancy brought down Johnny Hayes inside the penalty area.
McGinn stepped forward to take the spot kick, but his effort was saved at the left post by goalkeeper Ben Williams to help claim a point for his side.
A win for Aberdeen on Sunday would have moved the club into fourth place, but Hibs retains that position by holding out for the draw.
The other match in the Scottish Premier League on Sunday also failed to produce a goal as last-place Dundee finished in a 0-0 stalemate with Kilmarnock.
Dundee has now earned 14 points from 23 games to sit 11 points from safety.
