Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul suffered a fractured right forearm in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins and is expected to miss at least the next six weeks.

TSN of Canada cited Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle's update following the game, and the team's website confirmed the diagnosis on Thursday.

Lupul departed in the second period and did not return after bearing the brunt of a slash by Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik. Additional reports cite it was a shot from teammate Dion Phaneuf which caused the damage.

The setback comes just days after the Leafs rewarded Lupul with a five- year extension through the 2017-18 season.

Toronto has recalled forward Matt Frattin from its AHL affiliate.
