Newcastle United confirmed on Wednesday the club has completed the signing of French forward Yoan Gouffran from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
Gouffran, 26, put his name to a new 4 1/2-year contract at St. James' Park for an undisclosed fee.
He began his career Caen before moving to Bordeaux in the summer of 2008. The former France under-21 international played more than four years with Les Girondins, making 179 appearances and scoring 40 goals.
"I am really proud to have joined this fantastic club," Gouffran told the club's official website. "Throughout the last few years I have enjoyed every moment of my time at Bordeaux, but all good things must come to an end and it was time for a new challenge."
Gouffran becomes the third French player to arrive on Tyneside during the current transfer window, joining defenders Mathieu Debuchy and Mapou Yanga- Mbiwa.
Gouffran will be counted on for some offense along with Papiss Cisse as the Magpies fight to stave off relegation. The Tyneside club sits in 16th place, just two points above the drop zone.
