Manchester, England – David Silva netted a goal on each side of the interval as Manchester City pulled to within four points of the top of the Premiership with a 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.
Silva got City off on the right foot just two minutes into the contest when the Spaniard collected a loose ball in the box and deposited it into the bottom right corner of the net.
Silva struck again for the Citizens in the 71st minute when he got on the end of a beautiful through ball from Carlos Tevez down the left wing, took a touch and calmly fired it off the inside of the far post and into the net for the comfortable two-goal margin.
Fulham controlled 55 percent of the possession, but could do little with it as the club failed to register a shot on target in the defeat. The Cottagers remain in 14th place on 25 points.
Liverpool 5, Norwich City 0
Liverpool, England (Sports Network) - Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez proved to be an effective strike tandem as Liverpool hammered Norwich, 5-0, at Anfield on Saturday.
Things got rolling for the Reds in the 26th minute when Jordan Henderson controlled a ball just outside the box and smashed it into the top right corner with a fantastic half-volley, putting the home side in front.
Just 10 minutes later, the dynamic Suarez found the mark on the heels of a beautiful through ball from Lucas, setting Suarez free down the left side before he slid a shot into the far corner for the second tally.
Sturridge joined the party in the 59th minute when Stewart Downing took a pass from Steven Gerrard on the right side and volleyed a low cross into the box for the former Chelsea man to tap in for his third goal in as many appearances for Liverpool.
Gerrard made it four with a patented right-footed strike into the bottom left corner from outside the box in the 66th minute and Norwich gave the Reds a fifth goal 16 minutes from time courtesy of an own goal by Ryan Bennett.
Liverpool moves up to seventh place on 34 points, while the Canaries sit in 13th place on 26 points.
Reading 2, Newcastle 1
Newcastle, England (Sports Network) - Newcastle's disappointing campaign continued on Saturday as Adam Le Fondre came off the bench and bagged a second-half brace to give Reading a 2-1 win at St. James' Park.
Yohan Cabaye opened the scoring for the hosts in the 35th minute when the Frenchman curled a fantastic free kick into the top left corner, leaving Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici with little chance for a save.
Le Fondre came on in the 70th minute and made an immediate impact when he found the back of the net from a Jimmy Kebe cross just a minute later.
The Royals went in front only seven minutes after the equalizer as Le Fondre was at it again, slotting home a shot from the top of the box for the 2-1 advantage.
With the win, Reading moves out of the relegation zone on goal difference, while the Magpies are winless in their past five league matches and sit in 16th place on 21 points, just two above the drop zone.
Swansea City 3, Stoke City 1
Swansea, Wales (Sports Network) - Jonathan De Guzman scored a pair of second- half goals on Saturday as Swansea claimed a 3-1 win over Stoke City at the Liberty Stadium.
After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Ben Davies started the scoring just four minutes after the break when he beat Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic with a low left-footed strike into the right corner.
De Guzman added to the Swans' lead in the 57th minute with a fantastic curling free kick, then he made it three for the hosts with another strike 10 minutes from time.
Michael Owen pulled one back for Stoke in stoppage time with a brilliant header in the box, but Swansea held on for the result and moved up to eighth on 33 points, while Stoke remains in 10th with 28 points.
West Ham 1, QPR 1
London, England (Sports Network) - Loic Remy scored on his Premier League debut Saturday as QPR earned a point with a 1-1 draw against West Ham at Upton Park.
Remy completed a move to England from French side Marseille earlier in the week and wasted no time making an impression on his new team.
Just 14 minutes in, Remy got on the end of a nice through pass from Adel Taarabt and slotted it into the bottom right corner, putting Rangers in front.
But Joe Cole equalized for the Hammers in the 68th minute when a rebound from a Marouane Chamakh header fell to his feet for an easy tap in. It was Cole's first goal in a West Ham shirt since 2003.
West Ham improves to 12th place on 27 points, while QPR is still at the foot of the table on 15 points, but just four from safety.
Sunderland 3, Wigan 2
Sunderland, England (Sports Network) - Steven Fletcher netted two first-half goals as Sunderland held on for a 3-2 win over Wigan at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Wigan jumped out to an early 1-0 lead five minutes in thanks to an own goal from Sunderland's David Vaughan, but the Black Cats drew even in the 17th minute when Craig Gardner converted a penalty as a result of a hand ball in the area.
Three minutes later, Fletcher got his first of the contest with a close-range shot into the top corner, then found the net again three minutes from the break when he powered a shot into the net off a free kick from Adam Johnson.
Angelo Henriqez came on for Emerson Boyce in the 72nd minute and pulled one back for visitors seven minutes later with a header into the lower right corner of the net, but the Black Cats bunkered down on defense and held on for the result.
Sunderland improved to 11th place on 28 points, while Wigan is winless in its last three league matches and is even with Reading on 19 points, but the Latics sit in the relegation zone on goal difference.
West Bromwich 2, Aston Villa 2
West Bromwich, England (Sports Network) - Peter Odemwingie rescued a point for West Bromwich with a late equalizer in a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
The youthful Villains got off to a good start just 12 minutes in when Christian Benteke found the net with a powerful strike into the top portion of the net. Gabriel Agbonlahor made it 2-0 for the hosts in the 31st minute with a left-footed strike on the counter attack.
The Baggies pulled within 2-1 four minutes after the interval when Chris Brunt jumped on a back pass and unleashed a curling left-footed bomb from outside the box the snuck into the top corner.
Odemwingie completed the comeback in the 84th minute when he nodded down a corner kick and volleyed it past Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan to save a point for his squad.
Aston Villa moves out of the drop zone on 20 points, while West Brom moves up to the eighth spot on 34 points.
