Genoa have signed midfielder Ruben Olivera on loan from Fiorentina with an option to purchase at the end of the season.

Olivera, 29, has struggled to find minutes this campaign behind David Pizarro and Alberto Aquilani, appearing in just four league matches.

The Uruguay international has also had his share of disciplinary issues this term as he was handed a three-match suspension last month for stamping on Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic during a 4-2 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico.

"Genoa have completed the loan transfer of midfielder Ruben Olivera from Fiorentina, with the option to sign the player permanently," the club said in a statement.

Olivera signed with Juventus in 2003, but spent much of his career with the club on loan, including spells with Atletico Madrid, Sampdoria and Penarol.
