London, England – Defender Joey O'Brien signed a new three- year contract with West Ham United on Monday which will keep him at Upton Park until 2016.
The Republic of Ireland international was acquired by the Hammers on a free transfer after his contract with Bolton came to an end in 2011.
O'Brien's current deal was set to expire at the end of the season.
"I am delighted," O'Brien told the club's official website. "It's for three- and-a-half years so hopefully I'll have plenty more good times with the club and that's what I'm looking forward to doing now."
The 26-year-old left back made his first-team debut for Bolton in 2004, but played just 12 games from 2008-2011 due to a serious knee injury. Upon his return, he featured regularly, helping West Ham back to the Premier League in 2011-12. O'Brien has made 15 appearances this season, posting one goal.
West Ham currently sits in 11th place on 26 points.
