Malcolm Miller scored a career-high 28 points off the bench as Southern University pulled away from Jackson State 80-67 Tuesday night in Southwestern Athletic Conference action for its sixth straight win.

The Jaguars (10-6, 4-0), who have won nine of their last 10 games, were tied with the Tigers nine times before an 18-5 spurt made it 60-47 with 7:15 remaining. Yondarius Johnson scored eight points in the run.

Southern maintained an 11-point cushion the rest of the way, shooting 64 percent in the second half (16 of 25) compared to 33 percent for Jackson State (13 of 39).

Javan Mitchell scored 14 points and Derick Beltran and Johnson added 12 apiece for the Jaguars.

Kelsey Howard scored 20 points to lead Jackson State (1-12, 0-4), while Dundrecous Nelson added 12 and Jeff Stubbs 10 points. The Tigers, who have lost four games in a row, committed only three turnovers.
