Hobart, Australia – Fifth-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro suffered a straight-set setback to Olga Govortsova in the first round of the Hobart International tennis event, a final Australian Open tune-up.
The 24-year-old Govortsova of Belarus saved 3-of-5 break point opportunities in a 6-2, 6-1 triumph on the hardcourts at Hobart International Tennis Centre.
American Sloane Stephens, the eighth seed, topped Great Britain's Laura Robson, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the only other first-round match Sunday.
German Mona Barthel defeated Belgian Yanina Wickmayer in last year's Hobart finale.
