Buffalo Bills defensive end Mark Anderson has been ruled out for Sunday's regular-season finale against the New York Jets.

There were slim hopes the defender would suit up for the first time since injuring his knee during the 45-3 loss to the 49ers in San Francisco in week five, but coach Chan Gailey announced after practice Friday that Anderson would not play.

Anderson finishes 2012 with 12 tackles, one sack and one pass defended.

Buffalo also promoted wide receiver Kevin Elliott to the 53-man roster. The Florida A&M product had 10 receptions for 138 yards in 13 games with Jacksonville before being released on Dec. 15. He was signed to Buffalo's practice squad on Dec. 18.

The addition will help the Bills fill gaps in the passing game left by Donald Jones' sickness and an injury to Scott Chandler. Jones and Chandler account for 10 of the Bills 23 receiving touchdowns.

The Bills will be without safety Da'Norris Searcy because of a hand injury. The second-year player has 39 tackles and two forced fumbles through 15 games.

Buffalo (5-10) hosts the Jets (6-9) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y.
