The Houston Astros acquired pitcher John Ely from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday in exchange for minor league hurler Rob Rasmussen.

Ely appeared in two games for the Dodgers last season, posting an 0-2 record and a 20.25 earned run average. Over 27 starts at Triple-A Albuquerque in 2012, Ely went 14-7 with a 3.20 ERA and fanned a PCL-leading 165 batters.

The 26-year-old right-hander is 4-13 with a 5.70 ERA over 25 career big league appearances with the Dodgers. He made 18 starts in 2010 and was 4-10 with a 5.49 ERA.

Rasmussen posted an 8-11 mark with a 4.25 ERA over 27 minor league appearances, all but one as a starter, in 2012 between Single-A Jupiter and Double-A Corpus Christi. The 23-year-old lefty was acquired by the Astros on July 4 from Miami as part of the deal for first baseman Carlos Lee.
