The Boston Red Sox have officially announced the signing of right-hander Koji Uehara to a contract for the 2013 season.

The 37-year-old native of Japan did not record a decision in 37 games last season for the Texas Rangers, posting to a 1.75 earned run average while recording 43 strikeouts compared to three walks.

Uehara debuted in the majors as a starter with Baltimore in 2009. The Orioles moved him to the bullpen the following year and dealt him to Texas at the 2011 trade deadline.

In 157 games with the Orioles and Rangers, Uehara is 5-9 with 14 saves and a 2.89 ERA.
