Reading, England – Christmas came early for Arsenal on Monday as Santi Cazorla netted three goals and assisted on another in a 5-2 Arsenal win over Reading at the Madejski Stadium.
It was one-way traffic in the first half as the Gunners took a 3-0 lead into halftime with a goal from Lukas Podolski and two from Cazorla.
Kieran Gibbs was instrumental in the Arsenal attack and he set up the opener for Podolski after 14 minutes before the German turned provider on Cazorla's first goal shortly after the half-hour mark.
Cazorla found the net again three minutes later with Gibbs setting up the chance by nodding the ball down for the Spaniard, who completed his hat trick in the 60th minute from Podolski's driven cross.
The home side showed a bit of fight with goals from Adam Le Fondre and Jimmy Kebe five minutes apart to reduce the deficit to 4-2.
However, Cazorla saw off any threat to Arsenal's lead when he threaded a pass into the area for Theo Walcott, who capped the move with a composed finish 10 minutes from time.
Arsenal climbs to fifth in the Premiership table with the win, while Reading has lost its last six matches and remains rooted to the bottom of the league, six points from safety.
