The Milwaukee Brewers signed veteran infielder Donnie Murphy to a minor league contract on Monday. The deal includes an invitation to the team's spring training camp.

Murphy is a lifetime .205 hitter with 18 home runs and 82 RBI over parts of seven big league seasons with Kansas City, Oakland and Miami. The 29-year-old played in a career-high 52 games for the Marlins in 2012 and batted .216 with three homers and 12 RBI.

The right-handed hitter will offer the Brewers some flexibility at the infield positions, having started 55 career games at shortstop and 46 at both second and third base during his time in the majors.
